With the Town Hall looking like an elegant function centre in a big city, the crowd of about 230 people gathered for drinks and nibbles while awaiting the arrival of the 11 sparkling debutantes.
Danny Dutton came back to Nyngan to officiate, and announced the official party consisting of Bogan Shire Mayor Ray Donald and his wife Di Donald, Michael and Janine Dutschke from Nyngan Christian Church, Kingsley and Nicole Hunt representing Nyngan High School and the Matron of the ball Mrs Bev Whiteford, who sashed the debutantes, and her husband Dick.
Sharyn Martin announced the stunning 2013 debutantes and their very handsome partners and gorgeous attendants. No one could fail to be impressed with their gracefulness and style.
Mr Michael Dutschke offered a prayer of thanks upon the ball and its participants and was followed by Can Assist president Lyn Webster who spoke about the ball and its local committee, and the role they have to play in providing assistance to Nyngan people in their time of need during cancer treatments here and away from home.
Ms Webster thanked the many volunteers who gave assistance on the night.
She gave a special thanks to Scott Bartley and his band of helpers for the catering and Malee Lipman and her Nyngan High School hospitality students who provided the table service and delivered the meals.
These kids were well-mannered, polite and it was so nice to have all their smiling faces around.
Also to Bev Whiteford and Colleen Anderson for their many hours of time given to decorate the Town Hall.
Anna Carter spoke on behalf of the debutantes and gave a vote of thanks followed by Sophie White and Jack Lupton, who cut the cake made and decorated by Judy Stimpson.
Next came the highlight of the night, the debutante dance.
The songs were chosen by the debs and the modern dance was very favourably received by all the supporters of the participants.
They certainly made their teacher proud.
A version of the Hokey Pokey followed and then a parent dance where all participants danced with their mum or dad.
This was a really lovely touch and you could see the pride on the parents faces as they floated around the hall with their child on their arm.
In between meal sittings, an auction was held with auctioneer Joe Portelli at the helm and his side kicks Mark Griffiths and Jenny “Delvene Delaney” Griffiths.
The team got many laughs but also some amazing goods, all donated by people wishing to help out Can Assist, were auctioned off.
The music for the night was
provided by Can Assist supporter Royden Donohoe and his smooth voice and great sound had the crowd on its feet.
Both young and old hit the dance floor and danced the night away to end what can only be described as a fantastic night in Nyngan.
Thanks go out to anyone who put up their hand to help out and to the Can Assist Committee who worked so hard to make it all happen.
